Charity tournament kicks off at 海角直播

Last year physiotherapy student Robert Baldwin died suddenly from an epilepsy-related death. Determined to honour Robert鈥檚 memory and to help people understand the condition, students and staff from the University of 海角直播 will hold a special football tournament on Saturday 23 April to raise funds for the Epilepsy Bereaved charity.

Robert, from Barrowford in Lancashire, died at the age of 19. Fifteen seven-a-side teams will face off from 12pm at the University鈥檚 Olympia Building, off Victoria Road, Middlesbrough. Spectators are welcome to the free tournament and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Funds from the raffle will go to the charity.

Physiotherapy student Lauren Woolley is one of the organisers of the event. She said: 鈥淓veryone on our course knows each other and we were all really shocked and distressed when Robert died. It was just so unexpected.

鈥淔ootball was Robert鈥檚 big love, so now we can pay tribute to him and raise awareness of his condition. We鈥檝e had lots of support from local firms who have donated prizes for the raffle and most of all from Robert鈥檚 parents who have kindly provided us with a trophy and plaques for the winning team.鈥�

The raffle and trophy presentation will be made at 3pm at the Olympia Building鈥檚 outdoor pitch. Members of the media are welcome to attend the matches and/or prize giving.

Raffle prizes include a football signed by the first team of Middlesbrough Football Club, UGC Cinema tickets, vouchers for Pizza Hut, McDonalds and Joe Rigatonis as well as University of 海角直播 branded goods. Asda Stockton has provided water and cups for the day.
