University opens its doors
Demonstrating how to put on a sari, or henna hand painting with a steel band playing in the background. All this and more will be on offer at the University of 海角直播, when different faith groups join together for a special event on Tuesday 31 October.
Entitled 鈥極pening doors on religion, beliefs and culture鈥, the event is free, open to the public and will take place in the University鈥檚 Main Hall, Brittan Building, from 10am-6pm. It will be opened at 10am by the University鈥檚 Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Henderson.
The Reverend Andrew Howard, the University鈥檚 Chaplain, said: 鈥淭his event will reflect as whole the University鈥檚 equality and diversity outlook and policies. It links us with different faith groups in the community, displaying openness and a willingness to open our doors to local faith groups. Everybody is welcome to attend.鈥
Representatives from the following faith groups will be attending; Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, different Christian denominations, United Reform, Quakers and Methodists. Members of the newly formed Middlesbrough Council of Faiths will also be there. This inter-faith forum has been set up to promote greater understanding between different faiths in the area.
Other activities during the day include:
- Free trips at 11am and 2pm, to a local mosque and to a Christian Church with a Greek Orthodox Chapel.
- The Abingdon School steel band playing outside the Main Hall from 10am-12 noon.
- Trade crafts.
