Free lecture aims to explore young people鈥檚 mental health
How do health professionals recognise and respond to young people鈥檚 mental health problems? These and other related issues will be the focus of a free public lecture at the University of 海角直播 on Wednesday 6 June.
The University鈥檚 Professor in Public Health, Janet Shucksmith, pictured, will deliver the lecture, entitled 鈥楳ad, bad & dangerous to know? Issues in recognising and responding to young people's mental health problems and concerns.鈥 The lecture will take place in the University鈥檚 Centuria Building, off Victoria Road at 6.30pm til 7.45pm. Refreshments will be available from 6pm.
The lecture will explore what has been seen as an alarming increase in mental health problems in the child and adolescent population. Conditions from anorexia to self-harm, and from depression to ADHD have become of concern not just to parents and young people themselves but also to those working directly with them.
Professor Shucksmith will explore:
- Whose responsibility it is to promote good mental health of young people
- How professionals鈥 roles must change to ensure that 鈥榚very child matters鈥
- Whether young people, from the most successful to the most vulnerable, feel supported and able to access appropriate services.
The lecture will be of particular interest to young people, parents and those working with young people in a variety of settings. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the lecture. The lecture is free of charge and is open to all.
