Students give us vote of confidence

Our Design and Media students are the most satisfied in the UK, according to this year’s National Student Survey (NSS).

The scores in these subjects for overall student satisfaction were 94% for Design and 96% for Media Studies. In addition, Law has come second nationally for overall student satisfaction, with a huge score of 98% from those studying the subject here.

In the top ten nationally Our students also put us in the top ten nationally for overall student satisfaction in the following subjects: History, Medical Technology (Radiography), Nursing, Social Work and Forensic Science.

This result means we have eight subjects in the top ten, double the number of last year’s NSS. All of the above subject ratings are for full-time degree students.

The percentage of overall student satisfaction has gone up for the third consecutive year, rising to 83%. This figure is above the national average.

Outstanding scores for learning resources Our learning resources also received outstanding scores. To the question ‘the library resources and services are good enough for my needs’, we scored 91%, placing us joint third in the UK’s Universities for full-time undergraduate students, just behind Oxford and Cambridge. For ‘Access to IT resources’, we are the joint third University.

We’re also ranked top among the five North-East Universities for learning resources, again by full-time undergraduates.

Professor Graham Henderson, Vice-Chancellor, said: ‘All of us at the University of º£½ÇÖ±²¥ are absolutely delighted with the results of the fourth National Student Survey. It is very reassuring to see that the University has, once again, received such excellent feedback from its students. To have eight subjects placed in the top ten nationally is a tribute to the efforts, commitment and enthusiasm of all of our staff, who work so hard to provide our students with an excellent learning experience.’

• The government’s fourth NSS took place in early spring 2008. It has the backing of the Higher Education Funding Councils and the National Union of Students. The results form part of the new Unistats website for prospective students and their advisors.
