Charitable students give extra for Easter

08 April 2009

Regional and national charities will have extra funds thanks to the Easter fund-raising efforts of our students.

As part of their course work, final-year business students from degree courses in leisure, sports and tourism management worked in groups to stage fund-raising events for charities of their choice. In total, the seven groups raised 拢4,500 split between:
  • Breakthrough Cancer
  • Cancer research UK
  • Breast cancer Breakthrough
  • Macmillan Cancer Research
  • Everyman campaign
  • Zoe鈥檚 Place
  • Oxfam.

The events included football tournaments, variety nights and fashion shows.

Martina Kinsella, 22, from Nottingham, is a BA (Hons) Tourism Management student. She was part of a team of four who raised 拢1,500 for Zoe鈥檚 Place baby hospice with a race night.

Martina said: 'We were very pleased with the amount raised; we didn鈥檛 expect to make that much money and are really happy. We chose Zoe鈥檚 Place as we wanted to give to a local charity.'

The students are really innovative Nicola Poppitt, Principal Lecturer, School Learning and Teaching Co-ordinator in 海角直播 Business School, said: 'It is a real pleasure to be involved in this part of the students鈥 course. We do this every year and the students are really innovative in planning and delivering their chosen events. They have all done themselves particularly proud with the amount of money they have jointly raised for a number of different charities. Well done to the all students!'
