Police training makes international headlines

Cleveland Police is sharing its good practice in police training in partnership with the University at a prestigious conference in Estonia.

Chief Constable Sean Price gave a presentation at the conference on the training that new recruits to Cleveland Police receive here. Officers starting with the force complete a two year foundation degree in police studies at the University. The course includes academic subjects such as law, criminology and forensics but student officers are also given on the beat training.

The 26th International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) European Executive Conference was held in Tallinn.

Mr Price said: 'I was delighted to be able to speak at the conference about how we train new officers here in Cleveland.

'Putting People First means equipping our people with both the skills and knowledge to deliver the best service they can to the public of Cleveland, and that鈥檚 exactly what we achieve in partnership with the University.'

Liz Barnes, Dean of the School of Social Sciences & Law, said that working in partnership with Cleveland Police has supported both organisations in raising our profiles internationally, demonstrating the global contribution we are making to the development of policing.
