Back to the lecture theatre for hospital consultant Andrew

22 December 2010

Hospital consultant Andrew Adair is now involved in teaching the medical course he came to 海角直播 to complete.

Andrew, 38, of Hartlepool, is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine in the Accident & Emergency unit at James Cook University Hospital. He graduated from 海角直播 with a Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) in Medical Ultrasound, winning the prize of best overall student on his course. He is also now getting involved in teaching the PgC course.

Andrew said: 鈥榃e teach ultrasound to the registrars at the hospital and I鈥檇 already completed two levels, but to be able to teach I needed to complete the PgC.

鈥楾he quality of the course at 海角直播 was great and the facilities for students are really good. As I was working full-time I didn鈥檛 have much time to take advantage of the recreational facilities on campus, but I know people who got involved in the rowing club and used the climbing wall.

鈥楥ombining work and study can be hard, but there are a lot of educational links to medicine, so returning to study wasn鈥檛 too much of a shock having completed the exams to become a consultant.鈥

The course comprised lectures, assessment and exams at the University, along with practical modules in scanning which Andrew completed at James Cook University Hospital.

Continuing education The former pupil of Henry Smith School in Hartlepool and Hartlepool Sixth Form is now planning to progress towards the Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) in Medical Ultrasound.

It was Andrew鈥檚 first time as a student at 海角直播, but he said, 鈥楶eople often feel the need to leave their home town to study, but with a place such as 海角直播 on offer nearby there really is no need to go away.

鈥業鈥檇 certainly recommend 海角直播. The campus and the facilities for students are great.鈥
