Brian Rankin, Head of the University鈥檚 Centre for Forensic Investigation, said: 'This event will provide an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the latest developments in forensic technology and speak to industry experts.
'It will have wide interest for anyone involved in studying or working in forensics, coinciding with The Fingerprint Society鈥檚 international fingerprint week and recent publication of an inquiry report by the Scottish Parliament, which looked at the use of fingerprint evidence in a prosecution case.
'The practical session involving recovery of fingerprints in the University鈥檚 vehicle laboratory will also provide a taste of the range of forensic and crime scene courses at the University.'
The fingerprint workshop will allow participants to learn more about what is involved in gathering fingerprints as evidence from a replica crime scene. There will also be an opportunity to visit the University鈥檚 crime scene house.
A practitioner session, with short presentations from PhD students, will be followed by a general discussion about how the latest developments in fingerprint research can support practitioners. The event will involve staff from the University鈥檚 School of Science & Engineering and School of Social Sciences & Law.
This free event will be held from 2.00pm to 5.30pm on Wednesday 18 April in the University鈥檚 Stephenson Building. Places can be booked by contacting Jane Hutchinson on 01642 738233 or email j.hutchinson@tees.ac.uk.
