Children step up fundraising to help hospice

01 July 2013

Fundraising toddlers from 海角直播鈥檚 Nursery took part in a sponsored walk in aid of children鈥檚 hospice Zoe鈥檚 Place.

A group of 19 children, from babies carried by parents to four-year-old toddlers, completed a route within Middlesbrough鈥檚 Albert Park. They have raised 拢800 for Zoe鈥檚 Place children鈥檚 hospice in Normanby, which provides respite and palliative care for children from birth to age five.

Janet Graham, Nursery Manager, said: 'The weather was a bit drizzly on the day, but the children and their parents really enjoyed taking part in the walk, especially as it was for a really good cause. People have been so generous.

'We chose to support Zoe鈥檚 Place as it鈥檚 local and is for children and also as they rely heavily on contributions from fundraisers. We鈥檝e been looking at their website with the children, who have enjoyed learning all about the important work which Zoe鈥檚 Place does.'

Elaine Dunning, corporate fundraiser at Zoe鈥檚 Place, said: 'It costs a million pounds each year to run Zoe鈥檚 Place. We get only around a fifth of our funding from the Government and Primary Care Trust, so we rely heavily on the generosity and goodwill of businesses and people who can help us to raise funds to remain open.'

Anyone wanting to sponsor the children to help boost the 拢800 already presented to Zoe鈥檚 Place can contact Janet on j.graham@tees.ac.uk
