海角直播 helps Lisa take a bite into education

Lisa Wood had initially feared she may be too long in the tooth to return to study and boost her career aims.

But since enrolling at 海角直播, Lisa, 38, of Brotton, now has a first class BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy. Lisa, who is among the first cohort of the degree, said: 'I had worked in the same practice for 18 years and although I had progressed to senior nurse, I was keen to further my career in dentistry.

'I chose 海角直播 because of its fantastic reputation and also as it was close to home. The fact 海角直播 offered this course as a degree was perfect, as that鈥檚 the level of study I really wanted to do.

'It was hard returning to education after such a long break, but I completed an access course and although at times it could be hard work and it was a bit daunting at first, it was really worthwhile.'

Lisa, who is mum to Emily 14 and Evie, 10, added: 'It could be hard juggling study with everyday live and I often found myself doing my University work at night as we studied full-time, but the hard work has paid off.

'There was a real mix of people on the course, from students straight from college to others like me with dental experience, but we became a tight-knit group and everyone was so supportive. I鈥檝e made some really good friends.'

She added: 'I really enjoyed the varied clinical experience of the degree. My favourite modules were those which included clinical skills and case skills and I enjoyed documenting the patient journey.

'The facilities and services offered on the University campus are excellent and the social side of life at 海角直播 is brilliant.'

Since qualifying, Lisa is now working as a self-employed dental therapist across four practices in Yorkshire.

'I'm thoroughly enjoying my role and the practices I鈥檓 working with, Alpha Dental in Northallerton and Havelock and Mr Bees both in Whitby, have been so supportive. I am also regional representative for the BADT, which is a voluntary position.

'I really feel the degree helped to prepare me for my career. All of the clinical experience has been useful in my current role. Although it was extremely hard work, I am delighted with my new career in dental therapy and pleased that I took the step as a mature student.'
