New accommodation block will enhance student experience at º£½ÇÖ±²¥

The largest student accommodation centre in Middlesbrough has been bought by º£½ÇÖ±²¥ as part of its commitment to enhancing the student experience.

The University has added to its portfolio of student accommodation with the recent purchase of the former º£½ÇÖ±²¥ Central building on Borough Road. The acquisition of the building is part of a continued investment of a quarter of a billion pounds the University has made in its estate in recent years, which includes the £30m being invested in the campus heart with an innovative and flexible £20m five storey teaching building and extensive landscaping – due to be completed in autumn 2015.

For students seeking to study at º£½ÇÖ±²¥ starting in September 2015, the new accommodation will offer 75 newly-refurbished en-suite apartments in the modern building, which is ideally situated directly opposite the Middlesbrough campus.

The accommodation offers four to eight bedroomed apartments grouped together as a community and like all other º£½ÇÖ±²¥ accommodation will offer free internet access.

Malcolm Page, º£½ÇÖ±²¥â€™s Chief Operating Officer, said: 'This modern and stylish building is a fantastic acquisition to our student housing portfolio and will provide an even greater incentive to the thousands of students who choose to come to live and study in Middlesbrough each year.

'We are now embarking on a series of refurbishments to ensure that the building will continue to meet the highest standards over the coming years.

'We are constantly looking at ways to improve our student experience and the standard of accommodation plays a very important role in this.

'Therefore, we are delighted that we can now offer even more choices to potential applicants when they are making decisions about where they want to live.'

In the most recent National Student Survey, º£½ÇÖ±²¥ came highly recommended with nine out of ten students saying they would recommend the University. Other investment currently underway at the University campus includes a £6m overhaul of the science and engineering facilities with a three storey glass extension to the Orion building along with refurbishment of laboratories, workshops and equipment.

In the summer of 2014 over £1m was also invested in refurbishing the Students’ Union.
