Mature student, Nicholas List was able to utilise his previous experiences of academic study and industrial practice to smooth the transition into higher education as he studied for his BEng (Hons) Instrumentation and Control.
Senior Lecturer Neville Winter, who nominated Nicholas for the award, said: 鈥楩rom the outset it was evident of the commitment and dedication Nicholas would show throughout his studies, spending many hours working in the university laboratories in independent study and utilising the other resources available to him.
鈥楬is assessment work was always completed to an excellent standard and deadlines were always met.
I was very honoured to receive the Harry Orr award and, also a little surprised as there was a lot of other hard working and determined students who equally deserved the award and recognition.
鈥榃hen working as part of a group it was good to see the time Nicholas would spend with peers who were less experienced and potentially lacking in confidence as a result. This aspect was mutually beneficial and was another outstanding factor that demonstrated Nicholas鈥 ability to contribute, something that will stand him in good stead for a career as an engineering professional.
鈥楥olleagues and I are proud of his achievements and wish him well in his future career. Congratulations to Nicholas on his award.鈥
