º£½ÇÖ±²¥ animation graduates receive top regional Royal Television Society Award

Three talented º£½ÇÖ±²¥ graduates have won a prestigious regional animation award.

Dream, a film by Leonie Albert Wong, BA (Hons) Visual Effects, and Ng Zen Lim and Eunice Ong Tian Ni, both BA (Hons) Computer Character Animation, was recognised in the North East and Borders Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards student animation category. The student animators worked together on the project as part of their final year studies.

Eunice Tian Ni Ong, said: ‘The idea behind the whole film was to have a short music video that would allow everyone to display their skills equally as individual 3D artists while also introduce a compelling story to the audience.

‘We had a lot of initial concepts that surrounded the theme of fantasy, and a lot of other ideas we wanted try out. However, we had to also consider the resources that are available to us and how we can adapt them to our work. After a lot of reiteration, we settled on our final concept of a mysterious girl adventuring around a city above clouds.

‘It was surprising and very rewarding to be able to see our short film stand a chance to win an award as accomplished as the RTS awards.’

Claire O’Brien, Lecturer in Computer Animation from the University’s School of Computing & Digital Technologies attended the evening and accepted the awards on behalf of the students.

Claire said: ‘I had the honour of representing º£½ÇÖ±²¥ and our amazingly talented graduates at the RTS awards ceremony. Leonie, Ng and Eunice thoroughly deserve this recognition for their beautiful animated film, Dream.

‘At º£½ÇÖ±²¥ we strive to ensure that all our students are equipped with the requisite industry skills to make an impact in the workplace so for these three graduates to have their work recognised by a professional body like the RTS in this way is a fantastic accolade.

‘They should be very proud of their achievement, and it will stand them in good stead in their future careers.’
