º£½ÇÖ±²¥

Why did you decide to study history at º£½ÇÖ±²¥?

I wanted to expand my knowledge in a subject I’m passionate about.

While I was at Stockton Sixth Form I was involved in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz project. It made me realise how much I loved history and it made me really want to study it further.

I found out about º£½ÇÖ±²¥ online and chose to study here because of how perfect the course was for me, and how closely it matched my interests. I was also attracted to the extra activities available at the University.

What’s the best thing about your course?

The best thing about my course is the varying opportunities it has given me. During my second year I completed a placement at nearby art gallery mima, which is part of the University. I helped develop some research for the gallery’s exhibition on 1980s º£½ÇÖ±²¥. It was amazing as it gave me the opportunity to use the skills I’d developed in my degree in a professional setting.

My favourite module so far has been War and Society. It allowed me to choose to further explore the topic of the Holocaust. I also enjoyed the module Careers for Historians, as I could use my degree skills in a real project.

What do you think about the University’s campus and support?

The campus and services at º£½ÇÖ±²¥ are excellent, easily accessible and comfortable. The library is extremely organised and provides a great environment for study whether you’re in a group where you need space to discuss work, or you need silence for individual study.

When applying to º£½ÇÖ±²¥ I was attracted to the bursaries and scholarships available at the University – it’s good that the University cares for your support and development during your studies. I’ve received some useful financial support during my degree. As well as my Student Loans Company maintenance loan, l receive a bursary from º£½ÇÖ±²¥ every year – I get this because I achieved good A Level grades.

What’s your social life been like?

I’ve had a wonderful social life and have met lots of new friends throughout my time at University. Middlesbrough has lots of good daytime activities and a good nightlife. There’s never a lack of things to do in your spare time.

I played netball during my first year, it really helped me keep my fitness up.

Would you recommend º£½ÇÖ±²¥ and your course to others?

Definitely, my course has given me a range of opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills and it’s shown me what career path I can follow with my newly found abilities. º£½ÇÖ±²¥ is a really vibrant university – it just feels like one huge community.

After I graduate I’m hoping to continue my education to postgraduate study. Following this I’d like to pursue a career in research and academia.

I really believe that my course has allowed me to achieve my ambitions and realise my passion for my subject.
